Hi A beautiful antique locket-back pendant
Made during the second quarter of the 19th century
Most likely Swiss in origin – the colours are extremely unusual
The locket is circular, with a petal edge
The front is enamelled in an opaque pink, with polished gold and translucent red details
The back of the pendant holds the glass locket cover.
It is perfectly bevelled
The gold border is deeply carved
Inside the locket compartment in enamelled in a mottled blue
The pendant hangs from a deeply carved bale
The pendant measures 2.7cm long including the bale
The locket glass measures 1.4cm across
The pendant weighs 4.6g
The locket is made from a thick skin of high carat gold (a physical sheet, not a molecular plate) over a base metal
The locket is in excellent antique condition
There is no damage or repair and no obvious wear
The black mark on the bale is where the original solder has oxidised
