This is a wonderful, large scale brooch in the shape of a butterfly
It’s made from solid sterling silver. Each wing is set with a piece of natural Morpho Blue butterfly wing under clear, polished glass
The back of the brooch is marked ‘sterling’
The brooch measures 6.2cm across
It weighs 12g
It dates to the early 20th century
It’s in very good antique condition with no damage to the silver or glass (what looks like a chip
in one of the pictures is just a trick of the light)
The wing has faded from its original, brighter blue colour to a soft, denim gray-blue. At certain angles watermarks can be seen, but these aren’t obvious when the brooch is worn
