This is a beautiful, natural, extra large cabochon of natural moonshine, mounted in solid 9ct yellow gold
The moonstone was originally mounted in an Art Deco silver mount, so dates to the early 20th century
The stone is cabochon-cut, with a high, sugarloaf dome to the front and a curved back
The stone isn’t clear, but neither is it flawed.
It is like a mist caught in a valley, or rolling in from the sea. Smoke on a summer’s evening
The light moves around inside it, allowing it to be bright and moody at the same town
There is some blue adularesence, but mostly a celestial, white glow
The pendant measures 3.1cm long including the loose ring
It’s 1.8cm across
The moonstone measures 1.8cm x 1.5cm x 1.3cm deep
It’s in excellent antique condition
There is no damage or repair
There are some very fine scratches to the top of the cabochon, visible on close inspection
There are no deep scratches and no chips
There is one internal, linear flaw – vertical, to the top edge. 2mm long – it’s mostly hidden by the setting
The box is for display only
