A really unusual antique chain, dating to the early 20th century
It’s made from solid 800-grade silver
Some elements are decorated with niello (a technique to pattern silver with a black oxide) and others are skinned with a sheet of rose gold
The chain is a novel, flat link that I have never seen before
It fastens with the original, niello-decorated dog-clip and bolt-ring clasps
The chain measures 16.5” / 42cm long by 7mm wide
The flat section accounts for 14” / 35.5cm of the length
It weighs 18g
It’s in excellent antique condition with no damage or repair
There is light surface wear throughout
The chain is marked 800
The rose gold elements are rolled gold – a thick sheet of solid gold, fused to the silver. This is longer wearing than electroplate and vermeil
