This is a beautiful antique locket.

It was made in the late 19th century

The front is covered in rose-cut bohemian garnets in cut-down collets

The back supports a large, glazed, locket compartment, deep enough for treasures

The locket hangs from its original, garnet-set bale

The metal is known as “garnet gold”. This is an alloy of gold, silver and base metal. It is currently tarnished

The locket measures 4cm long from the top of the bale

It’s 2.4cm wide

The glazed compartment measures 2cm x 1.6cm an is more than 3mm deep

It weighs 5.5g

The locket is in excellent antique condition

One of the stones has been reset

The locket snaps shut securely
