This is the most beautiful portrait of someone’s favourite Jack Russel
Hand painted in vitreous enamel, it’s a testament to the enduring love between humans and dogs
The enamel is on an early type of lighter. The removable tube is stuffed with wadding, soaked in spirit and then struck along the bottom edge to cause a spark. I have not tested its efficacy, but it does make a spark
The main box is made from Alpacca – a non precious white metal, popular in the late 19th century into the early 20th century
The top of the tube is brass
The box measures 4.5cm long, 2.5cm wide and is 6mm deep
It weighs 20g
It dates to the early 20th century
It’s in very good antique condition
There is no damage or repair to the enamel
There is light surface wear to the metal
