This is an exquisite scent flask, made in the mid-19th century
Its design is referencing pieces from the Renaissance
It’s made from gold plated base metal. The internal, tubular container is silver
The flask is set with natural blister pearls and oval, flat-cut garnets
It makes me think of the opulence of Catholic churches – the swinging censer, jewel-bright windows, everything that can be, gilded
Holy oil, holy water, the scent of heaven
It can hold any precious or sacred fluid
The flask has a hinged lid and hangs from two fine chains which meet at the pendant bale
The lid is secure, and the flask could be made airtight with a small cork
The flask weighs 6.1g
It’s 3.4cm long
As a pendant, with the chains and top ring, it’s 8.5cm long
The pendant is in excellent antique condition
There is no damage or repair
There is visible surface wear in a few small areas
The box is for display only
