An enormous antique seal fob
Dating to the mid-19th century, this impressive fob (ie to hang from a watch chain) carried a large, smoky citrine in the base
The fob is made from gold-skinned silver. The silver tarnish on the gold surface gives a colour that matches the stone perfectly
The large citrine is foil-backed and beautifully bezel set
The fob weighs 21g
It stands 3.7cm tall
The base measures 2.3cm x 2.1cm
The internal diameter of the loop at the top is 4-5mm
There is visible wear to the gold skin on the long sides near the base and on the shoulders
There is a spot of soft solder on the very top, I think to reattach some gold skin that has lifted
The foil behind the citrine shows some tarnish or dirt
